The Ticking Clock: When Tomorrow Is the End of the World… Again

I was not sure if I was going to post about this topic in this blog, because I want to keep it mostly geared towards hospitality. But a topic came up that I feel very strongly about.

Today, as I was taking a break between meetings, I heard two colleagues talking and one said to the other “Last night I came across RaptureTok and it is wild. People are claiming the rapture will be today or tomorrow.” In my head I chuckled yet wondered “What is happening?”

I had to learn more because honestly, I was curious. So, I typed RaptureTok… and oh my goodness. Think the corner of TikTok where videos rack up thousands of views claiming this week will be the rapture. From a solar eclipse , to an earthquake, and a man receiving a prophecy, all turned into a countdown. Even Bible verses pulled out of context is framed like a secret code. When I finished, I was unsettled, and honestly, exhausted. And I was also disheartened, because many of the individuals are Christian social media creators with large number of followers.

While one creator is confidently declaring that the trumpet will sound tonight, another is posting tearful updates about how they don’t want to miss it, and still another is calculating end-times with numerology like it’s a cosmic math equation. The comment sections filled with fear, confusion, the mockery of non-believers, and sometimes outright panic. I saw videos of people claiming to have sold their private property, while others prepared lists for those in the family and friends circles who will be left-behind. Friends… what is this?

The Bible is clear: no one knows the day or the hour. Not the TikTok algorithm. Not the numerologist with a whiteboard. Not even Jesus Himself — only God the Father.

So why do so many keep trying?

To me, this goes back to the same story we’ve been telling since Eden when Eve reached for the fruit because she wanted knowledge that belonged only to God.

And every rapture prediction — every calendar countdown and coded message — is another attempt to grab that fruit. To have the knowledge of God. To be in control.

But here’s the thing: the call of Jesus isn’t to decode. It’s to follow. He never said, “Figure out the date.” He said, “Be ready.”

That’s the piece RaptureTok and endless end-times posts often miss. They stir up fear, distraction, and debate — but discipleship is about faithfulness in the ordinary, not obsession with the extraordinary.

Being ready looks less like refreshing TikTok for the next prophecy drop and more like living out love, obedience, and trust right where you are. It’s showing up for your family, serving your community, tending the garden of your life, and running your race with endurance.

Because whether the rapture is tomorrow or a thousand tomorrows away, our calling doesn’t change. The point is not when. The point is who.

And our only goal? To follow Jesus.
